The Original Spreewald Feldmann’s production facilities are located in the heart of the Spreewald biosphere reserve and are considered second-to-none among the modern plants in Europe.
The company looks back on a long tradition in the production of Spreewald gherkins and pickled delicatessen. In 1992, Feldmann GmbH & Co. KG from Karlsruhe bought the former state-owned “VEB Spreewaldkonserve Lübben”. Significant investment allowed the owner to open a new production facility in 1998. In 2006, Original Spreewald-Feldmann was taken over by J. & W. Stollenwerk oHG. This company has been the recognized specialist in premium quality canned food as far back as 1962.
The company processes products harvested from their own farms as well as contract farms.
Every year, over 28,000 tons of vegetables are pickled at the Original Spreewald-Feldmann production facilities in Lübben. The processed gherkins are all grown in areas within the Spreewald and are handled immediately on location, immediately after harvesting and without being transported over long distances.
Our warehouse space, which covers over 25,000 square meters, ensures seamless supply throughout the year. Customers include retail, cash and carry as well as bulk consumers and the food industry.
Numerous awards, among them the German consumer organization Stiftung Warentest and ÖKO-Test, prove the high quality of the products, which are appreciated by our customers all over Europe.
High quality standards are applied to both cultivation and the subsequent processing at the production facility. Varieties, seeds and cultivation areas as well as contract farmers are thus strictly evaluated in a comprehensive selection process.
Due to the regional cultivation within a limited area, Original Spreewald-Feldmann gherkins are considered a precious rarity and are by no means a mass product. Genuine Spreewald gherkins are hand-picked, one by one, and pickled the same day according to a traditional recipe using fresh herbs and an aromatic pickling infusion, without any artificial additives.
The Spreewald offers the ideal habitat for gherkin growing with its warm and humid microclimate, its soil structure and water quality. The original recipes, handed down from generation to generation, ensure the unique taste of genuine Spreewald gherkins. Spreewald Feldmann gherkins receive their typically aromatic flavor thanks to the use of fresh herbs and onions.
